What is an American Legion Veterans Service Officer?
An American Legion veteran service officer (VSO) is a trained professional who helps veterans and their families receive benefits and services from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Their services are free.
What do they do?
- Help veterans file claims for disability benefits, education, home loans, insurance, and more
- Gather evidence to support claims
- Represent veterans at the VA Regional Office and Board of Veterans Appeals
- Provide information and referrals for employment, education, and business
- Help veterans with appeals for denied claims
- Track claims through the VA system
